African Radio Manufacturing Company Limited (ARMCO) formed with ICDC which manufactured its own design of valve radios.

AFCOT Proposes a partnership Deal

AFCOT Ltd., the Sanyo agents in Kenya, approach ARMCO with a proposal that both firms manufacture Sanyo radio sets in Kenya.

Formation Of A new Company

ICDC, AFCOT and ARMCO decide to form a new company – Sanyo Armco LTD. to start manufacture of transistorized Sanyo Radios in Kenya with 15 employees and producing 300 sets in a month.

Expansion

Sanyo Armco embarks on an expansion program with 35 employees. Production of radios goes up to 4000 sets a month.

Factory Building Plans

After a grant of 2.34 acres from the Lands’ office, plans are drawn to build a modern factory in Nairobi

Sanyo Armco starts assembling HI-FI equipment and cassette tape recorders.

Second Expansion

Sanyo Armco launches a KShs 5 million expansion plan by adding another assembly line and now employs 300 workers.

Assembly Of Home Appliances

Sanyo Armco starts assembling home appliances. Mr. E. Kamuro – Vice President of Sanyo Japan visits Armco factory and commends its progress.

10 year Celebration

Sanyo Armco celebrates 10 years of operation. Preparations are finalised for colour TV assembly.

Sanyo Armco starts assembling colour TV sets in Kenya.

ICDC pulls out of Sanyo Armco. New management comes in with Sanyo – Japan.

Closing of Assembly Plant

Assembly plant closed and sold due to government’s liberalization policy. New policy is to import and distribute finished Sanyo products in the East African region.

Management restructure – Mr. M. A. Parkar pulls out due to conflict of interest with other businesses.

New Showroom

Sanyo Armco opens new showroom and offices in Westlands, with a view to expand direct sales.

Brand Created

Brand created to target price sensitive market. Sanyo Japan sells shares in Sanyo Armco due to strategic reasons. Purchases warehouse property in Industrial Area to expand business.

Highest Sales

Sanyo Armco records highest sales ever since inception.

Panasonic Buy Out

Panasonic Japan buys out Sanyo Brand Worldwide.

Re-branding

Sanyo Armco changes name to Armco (Kenya) Ltd.Introduction of Toshiba brand of LED Televisions.
